Soccer Patriots Dominate, Win Big in First Game
The Boys Soccer High School team started the season out right with a convincing victory in their first game of the year with a 6-0 win at Ballard County. The visiting Massac squad controlled all aspects of the game both offensively and defensively with the shutout win. Hayes Lawson had the honor of being the first Patriot to score this season coming from an assist by Kyle Reinwald at the 6-minute mark of the game. Dalton Mitchell quickly followed up with another score 3 minutes later with a nicely played over the top run-out to put Massac up 2-0. Scoring continued with Ben Mescher fighting off a defender to win the ball and place one past the goalie just before half-time. After half-time, the Massac dominance continued with Mitchell getting his 2nd talley of the day with run-out and dribble starting from the half-line into close proximity and then shooting past the opposing keeper. Substitutions were rotated in by both teams for the last 25 minutes of play. However, Sophomore Dylan Green made the most of his opportunity with back-to-back scoring conversions at the 68th and 71st minutes for his first goals of his high school career to polish off the scoring and the Massac win at 6-0. Strong midfielder and defender play prevented Ballard from ever mounting a serious challenge to the goal. After playing a weekend tournament of some of the upper crust of 2A soccer schools in Carbondale, Massac will next open their home field for the very first time on Thursday August 30 at 5:30pm for a return match against Ballard. This game will be the long-awaited official opening for the new Metropolis Soccer Complex. A short pre-game ribbon cutting ceremony will be conducted to recognize those that worked to make this day happen and to open the fields for business. Concessions and Soccer Patriot merchandise sales will be offered at the game. Spectators will need to bring a lawn chair for seating for this historic game.

Big Crowd, Big Win, Big Night
for Soccer Patriots Home Opener at New Complex
The Massac County Soccer Patriots finally got to step foot and play on their very own friendly confines of a home field on August 30. With the official opening of the Metropolis Soccer Complex and a large crowd in attendance for this historic game, the Patriots were not distracted and were up to the task of the moment for a dominant and entertaining win over Ballard County (KY) of 5-1. To the delight of the home crowd, Massac produced a flurry of shots on the opponent's goal for an astounding total of 18 for the game. Senior Kaleb McNichols had the priviledge of being the first to strike gold on the new field with his header off a nicely placed corner kick from Ben Mescher at the 3 minute mark. Many missed Patriot opportunities pursued until Dalton Mitchell was able to connect on a run-out for a goal 24 minutes into the game. Later on McNichols produced yet another goal, this time at point-blank range to put Massac up at 3-0 just before half-time. In the 2nd half, Mitchell quickly converted yet two more goals at the 41st and 49th minutes to get the remarkable and rare feat of a hat-trick of a three goal game. The remainder of the game saw substitutions for both teams. Ballard was able to avoid the shutout with a very late goal prior to final whistle to end the scoring for the night for the final of a Massac 5-1 victory. This game featured many first including both the first-ever home soccer game for the Massac County program along with the official opening of the new 20-acre Metropolis Soccer Complex. The pre-game included a special ribbon-cutting ceremony put on by the Massac Soccer Boosters to recognize and say "thanks" to several within the community. Representatives from the City Of Metropolis, Unit #1 Administration, Massac County High School, and the Massac Soccer Boosters participated in the officially opening the new field for play on this historic night.

Soccer Patriots WIN Regional Opening Round - Advance to Play Tuesday Oct 9
Massac on their home field came to play on Friday Oct 5 in their first-round IHSA regional matchup of Valmeyer, winning handily 7-2. In the offensive barrage, three key goals occurred in rapid succession in the final minute of the 1st half to take a commanding lead. The Massac goals for the game included: Dalton Mitchell (13th, 21st, and 40th minutes), Ben Mescher (40th minute), Tanner Weatherbee (40th minute), Kaleb McNichols (44th minute), and Weston Bazor (46th minute). The game was played in front of large & very supportive home crowd that came to watch Massac's first-ever game in playoffs.
The Soccer Patriots move on to play #1 Regional Seed Waterloo Gibault Catholic in Columbia, IL on Tuesday Oct 9 @ 4pm. This game will be followed by the A-J (#3 Seed) versus Columbia (#2 Seed). Winners of each of these game advance to play in the Regional Championship for this tourney bracket.

HS Boys End-of-Season Banquet
Players, parents, and the coaches from the Boys Soccer Patriots recently celebrated the season with their
end-of-season banquet. Coaches Marty Painter & Brock Frazier spoke about the season
in review and progress the program has made. A video and pictorial review of the season was also

Soccer Patriots Dominate, Post First-Ever Win
JR Reinwald (pictured above) was one of many Patriots that continually caused fits for the opponent defenders in Massac's 1st game of the 2011 season.
It was all smiles, high-fives, and congratulations for a Massac soccer team, who achieved its first ever program win Thursday September 1st in LaCenter, KY. The Boys High School team played its first game of the season against Ballard County. a similiar beginning program who are playing their first varsity season. The Soccer Patriots dominated all aspects of the game from start to finish, with a convincing 5-1 victory.
The size, skill, and strength of the Massac squad was prevalent throughout play. The Bombers were constantly having to fend off constant offensive attacks and pressure. Caleb Parker got the honor of being the first Patriot of the season to score with a center strike on goal at the 5:25 mark. Scoring continued for Massac in the first half with JR Reinwald at the 31:26 minute and a Ballard own-goal off of well-placed Patriot throw-in, giving the Patriots the 3-0 lead at halftime.
The Patriot barrage continued in the 2nd half even with Massac rotating the entire bench into the game. Kyle Reinwald played a beautfully long--distance assist to Ben Mescher for a well-played goal. Freshman Derek Lawrence while on a deep left run-out, bent a 25-yarder into the goal that "wowed" the crowd to round-out the Massac scoring for the night. Solid Patriot back defense and goalkeeping continually thwarted nearly all of the Bomber offensive build-up attempts in the convincing win.
